A few of you have mentioned how much you love to see “before and after’s”, so we’ve decided to introduce an awesome kitchen renovation we recently completed! Our Longmont Residence had a really great foundation: newer appliances, countertops, and backsplash, but needed to be fully brought up to date.
After taking stock of the pieces we would keep from the “before” kitchen, our main focus shifted to specifying new, full overlay, cabinets doors, updating the wood floors with a fresh coat of gray-toned stain, using a fun/contrasting paint color on the island, and adding fun pendant lights.
The “before” cabinets felt heavy due to the excessive use of trim, so we kept the cabinet boxes (which were in great shape), removed the dated doors, and had our millworker fabricate new, clean lined, full overlay, cabinet doors. These have a clean, contemporary look bringing the entire kitchen up to date.
To give the space a fresh and polished look, which is a key quality in any great kitchen, we used a brighter tone of white on the perimeter cabinets. To balance this, we punched the gray island up a notch using our favorite brown/black color: Sherwin Williams, Black Fox. We also swapped the drab brown leather barstools for a more structured stool with an expresso frame and cream colored waxed linen fabric. Waxed linen, vinyls, and krypton fabrics are our fave in the kitchen as they make for super easy clean up.
To add interested and a new layer to the space, we incorporated lovely copper pendants from Arteriors above the island. It’s that little touch of bright and bouncy color that this space needed. Mixing metals is a fun way to liven up your space. It doesn’t matter that your appliances are stainless steel – bring in some gold, pewter, or copper to offset the sea of brushed nickel tones!
