Favorite Designs with Shades of Green

Spring is officially here – lush flowers blossoming everywhere you look, people sporting festive shamrocks to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and everyone spending more time outdoors in the beautiful, warm weather. What better way to inject a little spring into your home than with some eye-catching pops of green?

This year’s Pantone Color of the Year is a stimulating and refreshing tone, and is also symbolic of new beginnings. Because of its versatile nature, it’s easy to introduce green into modern or conventional homes. There’s just something about a beautiful mint tone that can relax you, an unexpected shade of jade to lift your spirits, or an indulgent display of teal to put an eclectic spin on a traditional space.

Want to start small? Reach for an emerald vase or introduce a sage-colored throw pillow. Feeling a little more adventurous? Go on and tackle that olive-green accent wall you’ve been dreaming of!

No matter your mood, here are some tips for how to freshen up several different spaces in your home this spring using various lustrous shades of green.

Make an entrance

The saying goes, “you only get one chance to make a first impression.” This also rings true in your home! When you welcome guests through your door, they should get a true sense of your style, right off the bat. To transform your entryway, add a green accent such as photo frame, bowl or set of lamps to draw the eye in. Don’t worry too much about ensuring everything matches perfectly – what’s more important is that you choose a shade of green that represents your personal spirit and one-of-a-kind style.

Create balance

Often times the kitchen is where we are the least adventurous in terms of design. We can tend to focus more on functionality than style in this space, but the kitchen is actually the perfect place to freshen up the everyday!

If your kitchen centers around neutral tones such as white, gray, brown or black, add an unexpected set of green dining room chairs or cushions to brighten up mealtime. You could even throw in a set of Kelly green napkins or a patterned table runner to introduce a new look and feel. With just a few creative touch-ups, you’ll find yourself loving your kitchen in a whole new way!

Experiment with colors and textures

Accent pieces such as nightstands and rugs are meant to be just that – accents! In other words, I recommend you have some fun with it, by mixing and matching different shades of green that complement the other pieces in the room in order to create a truly unique look.

Try focusing in on a few other “anchor” colors (in this case gold) to weave in throughout the rest of the room, in the form of additional accents, in order to create a look that is cohesive and polished. In my opinion, it’s always fun to play around with textures, too. Consider incorporating a plush rug with a more structured, boxy nightstand for an elegant look that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Add versatility

As the mom of twin girls, I’m always looking for fun ways to keep my girls’ rooms balanced – they’re not babies anymore and as they grow, their tastes continue to change. Adding a fun headboard in a playful texture is a stunning way to ensure that you are preserving the child-like feel of the room without compromising overall style.

I’m also a big fan of this look because it’s transitional – you can easily move it to a guest room to immediately spruce things up and add new life to a space in need of some TLC if your little one decides this look is no longer their favorite.

Greenery Accents

Expect the Unexpected

Pops of green don’t have to be reserved for the bedroom or entryway – try taking a space you may not think of as very appealing and see if you can introduce some green hues in order to give it an improved and overall more sophisticated look.

Have a mudroom you’re not wild about? Possibly work on turning it around with some subtle light green paint on the cabinets or maybe by adding some lime cushions. Not excited about your guest bathroom? What about adding some calming seafoam light fixtures or tiling? We love finding those unexpected places to evoke a little spring for an overall revitalized look and feel!

Garage Designs

It’s so much fun to introduce pops of green in your home whether they be subtle or more obvious in order to freshen up your style for the start of the new season. In my opinion, there isn’t a more versatile color than green! It can invoke feelings of calm, restoration, passion, zest and fun. Adding pops of green in your home can be a fabulous way to showcase your own personal style in a classic yet current way. For more design inspiration follow us on Pinterest and Instagram!
