In another of a series of perfectly cool rooms for a perfectly hot summer, we’re offering a closer look at the office of our Memorial Park Modern Project. (You can find more pictures for that project at our online portfolio or our Pinterest portfolio.)
So let’s turn our attention to that thing most of us do all day: work! Why shouldn’t our office spaces be as well-turned out as our homes? Short answer, they should! And even more so if you’re lucky enough to have your office in your home.
We love our work, and we think it should be as fun, as creative, and flexible as we are. We’re all unique.
And our working environment should reflect that!
Here, sweet, curvy feminine lines and colors are offset by a strong, calming contemporary setting. The client already had the filmy white drape diffusing the sunlight from the large windows (we should all be so lucky as to have those windows!) and the lovely wall treatment, so we built upon this foundation.
Pale blue in a splendidly white room is classic, but by limiting it to the two soft furnishings, not only does it make it very easy to replace the color with another as the fancy takes us, but it furthers our calm, cool feel.
The fabulous Tufted Chair (frame in Java finish) from the Barbara Barry Collection for Baker Furniture (the fabric is S. Harris “Pearlescent”) sits under the sleek McKale pendant by Arteriors.
Two other classics lend a little bit of edge to what could be a somewhat quiet room: Century Furniture’s Chin Hua, Ningbo Console in Chalk White (right behind the desk), and the fabulous Traditional Ghost Table from Wisteria (next to the chaise lounge). These are light, airy pieces that keep a smaller room from being overwhelmed with clutter.
The cozy and gorgeous sitting area, complete with comfortable pillows and snuggly cashmere throw, would constitute a major temptation to abandon work for some daydreams with a serving of tea and perhaps a tempting cookie or two…let’s imagine it as creative thinking time!
More practically, the sky-high floor lamp is at just the right height for reading work materials and checking over paperwork in comfort.
This is one of our favorite rooms in recent memory!
I would certainly get through my work double-quick knowing my break could be spent on the other side of that desk!
I hope you’re all staying cool—bring on the autumn season!
