Laura Umansky is the Founder and Creative Director of Laura U Interior Design, a firm based in Houston, TX. Design has always been a part of her life. From a young age, Laura was deeply influenced by her environment, constantly finding ways to arrange her possessions with meaning and purpose. Seeing her father build her childhood home in Seguin, TX was the starting point of her career. “To see that he could do that, create our home with his own two hands…that lit something inside of me,” says Laura, who went on to study art at the University of Texas and subsequently obtain her Masters in Architecture from the University of Houston.
In 2006, she founded Laura U Interior Design, bringing her unique vision for Classically Current interiors to life. “Interior design, the way we practice it, is a true luxury,” Laura says. “Every part is crafted by human hands. We take great care to find out what matters to our clients most, and then to articulate that through great design.” Every interior is an authentic reflection of our clients’ passions and values, so that just like Laura, they are never without something they enjoy.
Laura’s work has been featured by esteemed media outlets, including Elle Decor, House Beautiful, Modern Luxury Houston, Veranda, and Luxe Interiors.

Since becoming an ambassador in 2018, Laura’s HVL interiors have been featured in Rue Magazine and House Beautiful. Her LEGENDS of La Cienega window proudly showcased fixtures from Hudson Valley and Troy Lighting, leading to her profile in CA Design + Home. The best is yet to come on this partnership.

Tai Ping x Laura U limited-edition capsule collection is an exercise in texture, an exploration of color and a contemporary interpretation of time-honored designs. To meet Laura’s high standard of quality, each rug is hand-knotted, hand-tufted and crafted with premium materials like silk, cashmere, and wool. The rug designs are based on the structural composition of fretwork and classic Chinoiserie motifs found on antique screens and ginger jars. A color palette of blues, greens, and neutrals give the collection a fresh and timeless feel.
Frost & Ember was a limited-edition capsule collection designed in partnership with renowned American textile manufacturer, Ellisha Alexina. The organic designs are printed on Belgian linen using a screen printing and hand-painting process. The cool blue and warm copper color palettes were inspired by the beauty of nature and Laura’s desire to create a linen collection that could be used throughout the year. A hostess knows that a well-dressed table welcomes family and friends, and Laura designed her collection to help celebrate those moments around the table.
