Join Me on Tour!

It’s almost that time of year! The 2017 High Point Market is just around the corner and I am so excited to join an amazing group of fellow designers as a member of the High Point Market Design Bloggers Tour. Together, we will give you an inside look at the showrooms, new collections, designs and all that the spring Market has in store.

Mark your calendars for April 22 – 26, and be sure to follow our Market adventures and discoveries using the hashtag #designbloggerstour on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

As always, you can also check back here after the Market for complete recaps of my experience and favorite finds from the week-long event. In the meantime, check out my top picks and recap from my time as a 2016 High Point Market Style Spotter, and let me know what you are most excited to see or learn about this year!

Fresh Arts: The Cineball!

It’s almost time for one of my favorite events of the year! The annual Fresh Arts gala is this Friday, February 24 and this year’s theme, The Cineball, is all about the movies. I’m always a fan of any excuse to dress up and plan to rock my best Cruella Deville look for the event.

While the costumes, glitz and glam will make for a fab evening no matter what, I am most excited for the event because of the cause it supports. Fresh Arts, as an organization, is dedicated to strengthening the sustainability and vibrancy of Houston’s arts community and works hard to ensure Houstonians have access to a thriving, innovative and diverse arts sector. Its work includes providing programming and services to assist local artists in their professional development and offer them access to resources needed to pursue a passion in the arts.

I’ve always believed access to the arts and encouraging young people to pursue careers in this field are vital parts of a thriving community and encourage anyone with an interest in Houston’s arts scene to get involved with this awesome organization (it helps that they throw really fun parties, too)!

If your calendar is open this weekend, tickets for The Cineball are still available, so you can join us to see for yourself what all the fuss is about!

See you there,

Las Vegas Market Favorite Finds!

It’s already been a couple of weeks since the Las Vegas Market, yet I still can’t stop thinking about all the amazing designs! This action-packed weekend left me totally inspired after discovering an endless variety of fabulous new product introductions by some of my favorite partners and vendors.

This year, I had the privilege of visiting the market as a Tastemaker, where I was tasked with giving an inside look into the market, as well as tagging my favorite designs and products during the showroom tours. As soon as I began, I quickly realized narrowing down my favorites was not going to be easy because every designer, and manufacturer, brought their A-game.

However, my decision-making abilities prevailed and I was able to choose the pieces I couldn’t live without. Read on to discover all of my fab finds!

2016 Designs in Review

With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season behind us and a new year ahead I can’t help but look back – with a fantastic feeling of accomplishment – at everything my team and I were able to achieve in 2016. From the completion of one stunning project after another to the list of awards and recognitions we scooped up, this year was certainly one of the best yet.

I am so fortunate to work each day with a fabulous team that pours so much passion and creativity into each and every design project. Throughout the year, this dedication to our craft has produced some of my favorite designs to-date.

While this is certainly not a comprehensive list of the gorgeous works that resulted from the collaboration of the Laura U team in 2016, here are four of my favorite masterpieces that I keep going back to as I reflect on the past year.

High Point Market Preview: Top 5 Finds

The fall High Point Market is a little less than a month away, and I am so excited to return as a Style Spotter for the second time! My first opportunity as a style spotter was at the spring market back in April, and I had such a fun experience exploring the new collections from some of the best designers and vendors in the world. You can find a recap of my spring market adventures here.

Now that I have one market experience as a Style Spotter under my belt, I am even more excited to return for round two as a seasoned pro in the style-spotting department. While many designers keep their new collections under wraps until the big reveals at market, I was able to check out pieces from a few of the top vendor’s collections for a Twitter chat I participated in with my fellow Style Spotters. From what I have seen, the fall market will not disappoint!

From blush fabrics to brass finishes, here are some of my favorite pieces I have uncovered so far.

Sip and See!

As interior designers, my team and I are always on the lookout for new products and ideas to incorporate into the classically current designs we create for our clients, and what better way to preview the newest collections from some of our favorite vendors than over a glass of bubbly without even leaving the office?

We recently hosted a “Sip and See” at our Houston interior design studio and had a blast exploring the gorgeous new collections from Dal Tile, Link Outdoor and Fromental and, of course, enjoying some cocktails.

Dec My Room

One of my favorite things about Houston – the place my family and I call home – is the sense of community fostered within the city. I’m amazed every day at the many ways people come together to help their fellow Houstonians in need and the countless local organizations that were founded here to help fill a void, make the city a better place to live and lives a little easier.
