January has been super busy! Between catching up from the Holiday break (and the snow/ice days), project installations and working on some new collaborations, this month has just flown by. We’ve also discovered many new sources of inspiration this month. All the new collections at Dallas Market and the introduction of the new Pantone color of the year (hello, Ultra Violet!) are making our design hearts happy. We’re so excited to share some of the things we’ve been inspired by this month with you!
Adding personality to your bed can be done with more than just decorative pillows. A fabulous headboard can make your bed truly one-of-a-kind. Go bold with graphic prints, vibrant colors or luxe fabrics. It’s very chic and modern! Tufts or pleats on a headboard make a subtle statement and elevate the look of the bedroom.
Furniture is a key element to any room, but sometimes you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for. So when you can’t find the perfect piece, what do you do? Go custom! Our go-to is House + Town. They’re experts in crafting quality pieces and we’ve been working with them for years. We first started working with them as Custom Designs under John Greenwood and developed a trusting relationship to create gorgeous pieces for our clients.
After all the furniture, rugs and wallcoverings have been installed, there’s one more thing you need to do – accessorize! Accessories, especially in bookcases, are a must. It creates another dimension to the design when you layer in objects of different heights, shapes, textures, and sizes. They’re the perfect finishing touch and elevate the space by adding unique, fun and personal details.
So, November flew right by! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. We’ve had a ton to be thankful for this year at the Laura U Studio. From the ASID Awards to exciting progress on projects and installs, to the massive (and exciting) undertaking that is the Boulevard Show House. This year has definitely been a busy and eventful one. So as we wrap up this month and welcome in the Holidays with cozy sweaters and Holiday music, let’s take a look at what has the Laura U team obsessing this past month!
Seeing brand new designer collaborations first hand at High Point Market is definitely one of the highlights for me. Meeting the creative genius behind the collection is icing on this designer cake! This past market (Fall 2017) I had the distinct pleasure of speaking with Thomas Pheasant about his new collection for Baker furniture. Mr. Pheasant is not only an award-winning interior designer, he’s internationally recognized for his elegant and thoughtful furniture collections, which are a contemporary interpretation of classic design principles.
There are few things in the design world that stay consistent. Trends change, new products emerge and classic designs are constantly reinterpreted. But despite the constant stream of changes, there is one thing that has remained Classically Current – black and white. This sophisticated and timeless color combination is not only striking and bold but the ideal match for any color palette. It provides the perfect base for any design that both minimalists and traditional interior lovers will appreciate.
When you think of feminine colors, shades of pink are one of the first colors that come to mind. For quite a while now, millennial pink has been a hot color in the design world. But I feel the winds of change a-blowin’ and I’m calling it: This season I’m predicting that lilac is the new blush!
October has been a month of travels, several team member birthdays (including a milestone for this one right here) and TONS of inspiration. As you probably know – because I constantly talk about it! – October brings my annual trip to High Point Market. It’s the best opportunity for the industry to discover new introductions from the best design houses and manufacturers in the US. This is a market visit I eagerly anticipate each fall so, if you haven’t checked out my HPMKT Recap, give it a read.
As this eventful month comes to a close the Laura U team is happy to share our new sources of inspiration. From bold furnishings, to fun lighting, to gorgeous accents we can’t wait to share our finds with you. I hope you discover your next obsession here too!
Art can be transformative. As both art lovers and interior designers, the Laura U team often encourages our clients to select art during their travels that remind them of their adventures abroad. Here’s a secret: one couple actually gives each other unique art pieces as gifts for birthdays and anniversaries. You can imagine over a marriage of 30 years what your house might come to look like or what artists you might discover!
