From a young age, I knew I wanted to be an interior designer. Growing up, I spent my time organizing and rearranging the objects in our home. And though I didn’t know it at the time, this exercise taught me how to be intentional and purposeful in my designs.
After nearly a year in the making, I am so excited to show off the finished products of my collaboration with Vetrazzo and introduce you to Vetrazzo By Laura U!
The full product line features four colorways – designed by yours truly – and I could not be prouder of this collaboration and work accomplished alongside the fabulous team at Vetrazzo. What began as a quick visit to the Vetrazzo facility in Georgia last May – simply to meet the team and tour the grounds – has come full circle to create a beautiful line of surfaces that are equally as durable as they are stunning.
Read on to learn more about the surfaces and my inspiration for each one!
Yes, you read that right! This week marks our ten-year anniversary and I couldn’t be happier! I know I have said it before, but I can’t reiterate enough how fortunate I am to work with such a talented team; there is just no way that Laura U Interior Design would be celebrating ten successful years without them. Over the last ten years, we have had the privilege of working on amazing projects spanning the entire country (and beyond), we have collaborated with fabulous clients to create beautiful homes, and – with our wonderful vendors – we have pushed the envelope with our designs. Above all, we have grown as a team and as designers.
In the spirit of celebrating a decade of designs, I took a trip through the archives to re-discover some of my favorite designs throughout the years.
I know I’ve said it before, but I can’t reiterate enough how fortunate I am to work with such a talented team. Even better, I love it when others recognize their fabulous and creative interior design skills! This past weekend, the team and I attended the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Texas Gulf Coast award ceremony and came back with a whopping four awards, including “Best in Show!”
This was such a huge honor, and none of this could have happened without the dedication of my amazing team and the incredible vendors we were able to work with. Take a tour of the award-winning homes and their respective categories!
Fall is here! My favorite season has finally arrived, and I could not be more excited. Every year, I eagerly await the changing of leaves, cool fronts, cozy interiors (my house is already decked out in gourd décor!) and new styles. While I love cute booties and comfy cashmere, I am certainly no expert in the fashion department, and I typically let my fall style come out in my interior designs, rather than my wardrobe.
Luckily, I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Houston’s own “handbag queen,” Elaine Turner, about fall fashion trends, and she was kind enough to give me the scoop on what’s hot this season. We had a fabulous time swapping knowledge over a glass (or two) of wine at Beckrew Wine House, and I learned so much about fall styles, Elaine’s (impressive) entrepreneurial journey and just how much we have in common (Elaine is also a mother of two and runs her company with her husband, Jim)! Sound familiar?
Needless to say, I am very excited to share all of the fashion-forward insight I learned during our happy hour. Read on for all of the details about Elaine’s amazing new fall collection, her take on white after Labor Day, and some inspirational advice from a lady who knows a thing or two about turning dreams into reality!
This year has been one of the best yet, and it just got even better. Design et al – the leading interior design magazine in the UK – has named the nominees for its prestigious International Design and Architecture Awards, and I am thrilled to announce one of our interiors received nominations for not one, but TWO interior design awards!
These nominations are a direct result of the creative vision and hard work our team put into this project and we are so proud of this recognition. Letecia Ellis Haywood, Principal Designer, and I poured our hearts into this home and now, we need your help to win! Please visit the voting page here and vote for Laura U in the “Regeneration” and “Design Et Al’s Global Design Award” categories under the “Residential Property” section.
Voting ends on August 31, and the winners will be announced at a special awards ceremony in London on Friday, September 2. You can also find photos of the stunning project that earned these nominations below.
Thank you in advance for your support – it is SO APPRECIATED!
After officially settling into our new Houston interior design office, the Laura U team and our new work neighbors, Relative Home Systems and Houston Magazine, celebrated with a first-floor social hour!
A big thank you to those who helped make the event a success and to all of our friends and family who joined us for the celebration. We had a fabulous time showing off our new studio and look forward to creating many memories and creative designs in the new space!
Moroccan travels and personal touches that capture our client’s unique interests are what inspired the colors and exterior design of this stunning Moroccan-themed veranda, and Casual Living took notice! I loved talking with the publication about the wonderful work our team – led by our principal designer, Letecia Ellis-Haywood – put into this project and we are so excited to see the work laid out in the glossy pages of the magazine!
You can pick up a copy of the April issue of Casual Living on news stands now (or grab a copy at High Point Market)! In the meantime, we hope you enjoy this piece about our project as much as we enjoyed designing it!
One of my favorite things about Houston – the place my family and I call home – is the sense of community fostered within the city. I’m amazed every day at the many ways people come together to help their fellow Houstonians in need and the countless local organizations that were founded here to help fill a void, make the city a better place to live and lives a little easier.
A couple of months ago, I sat down with the fabulous team at American Lifestyle Magazine to chat about my personal journey in the interior design world and the work the Laura U team does, and I even had the opportunity to show off the finished product of one of our client’s stunning home.
Seeing your work featured in the glossy pages of a beautiful magazine is always a treat, but my favorite part of this piece is that there is something for everyone: a new designer looking for inspiration and insight, a homeowner searching for a design team that fits your needs, or you’re just here to look at pretty pictures. You can read the full story here (page 24).
