Today we’re taking a look back on this classic Laura U design! This past project was completed in 2013 and ended up being a unique process – we worked on this home in multiple phases that allowed the design of the home to grow along with the size of our client’s family. Our clients initially came to us with an ultra sleek and modern concept but as their family grew, this aesthetic shifted to include bight and colorful kid’s rooms. The end result was something totally unique that incorporated and represented the clients perfectly!
Classic, timeless and comfortable – these are key staples to what we do here at Laura U. We are all about creating Classicly Current interiors for our clients, that will remain ageless for years to come. While incorporating trends in a subtle way, making sure our designs are reflective our client’s personalities! With that in mind – I love looking back on past projects and the process behind their designs…and today, we are taking it back to 2014!
I’m revealing some details behind a classically current, River Oaks home that perfectly embodies our design philosophies! Our youthful clients wanted an interior that would remain ageless, sophisticated yet playful. Ahh, I love when our tastes merge perfectly with our clients! So working with this young, growing family, Letecia Haywood, Principle Designer and I were able to design a gorgeous home that is functional, luxurious and classic. I’m so excited to share it with you!
As you enter this gorgeous home, the foyer greets you with simple sophistication! We kept this space with crisp white walls, painted in Sherman Williams Snowbound while mixing in some bold black and metallic details in the stair rail and glam, golden Maxwell pendants from Worlds Away, that lead throughout the hallway. These dramatic details add some contrast to this clean space. To complement this entryway, we added a golden accent chair dressed in Duralee fabric in Rose colorway, a console from Century and custom-made bench. This entry really sets the tone for the rest of them home.
To the left of this luxurious hallway, you enter the dining room. This space is unique to the rest of the interior. It is more formal, keeping to more neutral, warm hues. We painted the walls a smooth brown that complimented the natural tones within the custom drapery, in Clarke and Clarke Riad Sand. We added metallic accents of gold and silver to create contrast and amped up the elegance with this Ralph Lauren Evalina chandelier from Circa. It tied in this formal space perfectly!
Across the hall from the dining, is this fabulous formal living room. Its all about graphic details and bold contrast in this space. We love this statement area rug from Jonathan Adler that really sets the tone for space. It pairs well with the luxurious fabrics of the speakeasy swivel chair, in Harlequin Arkona velvet midnight and the Bernhardt sofa in a gray velvet. These elegant fabrics are perfectly matched by a golden accent cocktail table and ebony drapery. This space is all about rich textures and tones!
The family room is up next – visible from the entry of the home this space continues the clean, classic design. We kept white the dominant color here while mixing in dramatic elements of gold with our accessories, Vanguard Tully cocktail table, and chic table lamps from Robert Abbey. The pops of pastel pink and black pillows pair perfectly with the crisp custom sectional in Architex, champagne cream colorway. I love the simplicity of the space, it just feels both fresh and timeless! Plus the metallic details, consistent throughout the shelves – all the way to the console – give this space interest and character. This allows the eye to easily travel throughout the room!
The dining room and breakfast area neighbor the elegant family room. This space is equally as sophisticated. We wanted to continue the simplicity here, by contrasting white, metallics and black tones against each other. We kept the walls and cabinetry white, and painted the island black – it truly catches your eye! Then, added a touch of silver with Circa Gustavian Lanterns over the island and a Breck Chandelier from Arteriors…I know, I know, where’s the gold? Well, we wanted this space to be balanced with bold black and white and softer tones of the silver. Too much gold in this space would conflict with the glamorous accents of the family room.
The master bedroom is full of soft pastel hues and mixed metals – creating a glamorous space that is reflectent of our client’s style. I love how this space pulls in more color than the rest of the interior, but still keeps to the simplistic design of the home. The white, snowbound walls pair well with the sweet hues of pale pink headboard and chaise, and creams of the Salon Bernhardt nightstand. We incorporated some warmer tones within the palette by adding accents of brown and gold from the World’s Away Agusta bench and Century ‘C” table. It’s a perfect mesh of sweet femininity and glamor.
Lastly, this little powder bath is all things sophisticated. With a warmer palette of the wooden vanity and glass mosaic from Thorntree, this little space was design to be unique from the rest of the cooler tones of home. The glass mosaic pops against the white walls, making use of the small space. The Camille sconces from Circa brings a modern flare of lucite, mirroring the hardware of the built-in – floating vanity. So gorgeous!
Less is more!
From 2014 to now, this interior has not aged!
This project came together perfectly, incorporating a simple color palette and making accent pieces and accessories the stars of each space. We kept our eye out for a stand out chandelier or metallic, gold or silver, accents to really add drama to each room within this River Oaks home. It’s glamorous, timeless but most importantly livable! And I know our clients have continued to enjoy this interior every since!
I’m so glad I was able to share this project with you! It was such a blast to work on. You catch our last project reveal here or for more inspiration and peeks into past projects, check us out on Instagram and Pinterest.
Until next time,
I love taking a look back at past projects! No two are the same because each home is catered to our client’s preferences and style. Creating our client’s dream home is such an exciting experience for both the design team and the homeowners. So, I thought I’d break open our portfolio to share some ‘behind the scenes’ details behind the design process of some of our favorite past projects.
Today, I’m dishing on our artful Parkside Contemporary project.
It’s an exciting time at the Laura U office right now! On top of working on fab client projects and spending the last week in Sin City at the Las Vegas Market (a recap of our favorite finds is coming soon!), we have also been nominated for the HGTV Fresh Faces of Design awards in the “Patterns and Textures” category.
Before you read on for the details and a before-and-after look at the design, we’d love your vote to help us win! To vote, check out the “Patterns and Textures” category of the awards, select Laura and Blair’s project, browse through the photos, and select “’I’m ready to vote” at the end of the slideshow. Let’s take a brief pause while you pop over to vote…
Now that you have voted (thanks so much!), take a tour of the before-and-after photos below to see the design come to life!
