Copper is often thought of as an industrial material. But with its eye-catching, shiny surface, copper works well in both modern and more traditional style kitchens. It comes in a number of finishes, making it a design-flexible material. From mid-century modern to farmhouse, traditional and even rustic style kitchens, adding copper brings warmth, elegance, and a touch of glam to your kitchen.

Copper pieces with a patina are more toned down and give the piece a more aged feel. This finish style works beautifully in rustic and more traditional spaces because it isn’t as bright. A shinier finish tends to work best in more streamlined and modern interiors. The brighter finish gives the kitchen a sleek and polished feel.

The best part about copper is that it gets better with age. No matter what pieces you add to your kitchen, they will continue to stand out for years to come! From appliances to fixtures and hardware, here are a few of my favorite ways you can incorporate copper into your kitchen design.

Kitchen with white marble backsplash and copper hardware on dark blue cabinets

Your cabinet hardware does more than protect your drawers and cabinets. I like to think of cabinet hardware as the jewelry for your kitchen. Because it reflects the light and attracts your eye, it’s the perfect way to make a statement.

Switching out knobs and pulls on cabinetry and doors is an easy way to introduce copper into your kitchen. This is a great way to add copper into your kitchen if you aren’t ready to commit to copper appliances or light fixtures. It adds a subtle touch without the copper becoming the focus of the room.

Aged copper sink and faucet with white and gray marble counter top

What I love about copper is that it’s a surprisingly practical material. Unlike some metals, copper doesn’t rust when it gets wet, which makes it a great choice for a sink faucet! Though it does oxidize over time, the green patina that forms actually protects the metal and adds a bit of character to the piece.

Another benefit to copper is that it’s naturally anti-microbial. It’s the perfect material for kitchen sinks and vent hoods that often need frequent cleaning. This property eliminates the need for harsh chemicals, which allows the copper to retain its wonderful design features for years to come.

Lighting is another way to incorporate copper into your kitchen design. Copper’s reflective qualities help illuminate the room, adding depth and dimension. Hanging copper lights above a bar, over your kitchen island or your table is a great way to bring personality to a neutral space. These copper pendant lights complement the modern design aesthetic and definitely make a statement in this open kitchen/living room space.

Range and Range Hood

For a more powerful impact, I love going bold with a copper rang and range hood. The vibrant and unexpected color definitely breaks the mold of traditional stainless steel and make a huge statement. It gives the space a more rustic, antique feel.

Don’t be afraid to mix your metals either! The warm undertones of copper play well with the cooler tones of stainless steel and the classic shine of gold.

When it comes to ranges, nothing is more timeless and elegant than a La Cornue range. Designed in France more than a century ago, these ranges and hoods are true works of art. They blend the traditional with cutting edge technology in a refined way. This range instantly turns your kitchen into a masterpiece!

A little Bit of Everything

In this client’s kitchen, touches of copper add warmth and depth to this modern kitchen. The copper drawer pulls soften the crisp white Madeval cabinets and a copper faucet adds a touch of glam. Adding a copper range hood was the perfect way to create a focal point in the center of their kitchen.

The pendant lights with a bright, shiny copper finish over the island separate the kitchen and living room without closing off the space. It’s a fresh, minimalist space that incorporates luxurious details.

Copper and White Kitchens

Adding copper to your kitchen is a great way to add warmth and elegance without sacrificing style. A bright copper range or range hood is the perfect way to make a bold statement in your kitchen. An aged faucet or hardware instantly warms up the space if you aren’t ready to commit to a larger copper piece.

I’d certainly always traditionally associated copper with stark, industrial looks, so really refreshing to see it in a softer context. In these examples it’s been blended so well with both decor and furniture pieces as well. Thanks for sharing these.

While I love a bright white-on-white kitchen, contrast looks great too!
