Hello Again!

We have another refreshingly cool room to share with you, this time a kitchen with a beautiful breakfast area and bar.

In fact, “refreshing” is about the best word that really fits this room, one of our very favorites, in a Bellaire home filled with intense pops of color against a cool and calming backdrop of white.

All white cabinets tend to feel stark, especially in large rooms such as this. We love the look of the island in a darker color (Sherwin Williams, Black Fox) with the gorgeous, newly stained, oak floors. Topping the island with a gleaming, shimmery piece of gorgeous polished Calcatta marble helps bring sparkle to the room. The sleek stainless steel accents also work perfectly to brighten the space, as do the faceted, white, subway tiles on the backsplash.

In contrast, here is a look at before  the Laura U Interior Design team got a hold of this project and the end result after.

As you can now see, dark and heavy has been replaced with pops of bright turquoise in the Catalonia chandelier from Shine by SHO. The custom bar stools are oversized and mega-comfortable, bringing a definite whimsy to the room, along with the fun custom blackboard over the built in buffet. Simple and elegant furniture in the eating area (including the Ibiza round table from Brownstone) add detail without adding fussiness.

This room is incredibly airy, yet well-grounded, and it’s a pleasure to cook in, as well!

As always, please check out our Pinterest boards on kitchens and dining areas for more pictures of our favorite rooms—including this one—for inspiration and ideas.

We’ll see you soon!
