For all of us at Laura U, the love of home is a guiding force. It exists at the center of everything we create, and has inspired our firm’s approach since 2006. We are proud members of organizations that share our love of home and its powerful impact on Houston families.
The Houston Furniture Bank is committed to “making empty houses homes” for thousands of people in need. Through their No Kids on the Floor campaign, we have helped to provide mattress sets and soft goods for hundreds of children across the city of Houston. Our founder, Laura Umansky, is a member of the advisory board and every holiday season, we organize a donation drive to support the cause. Partnering with the ASID Texas Gulf Coast chapter, we encourage other shelter industry businesses to offer their time and talent to helping families build beautiful interiors no matter their circumstances.
With a team of talented women, our firm is a strong advocate for girls. As chair members of the Girls Empowerment Network, we support The We Are Girls Conference, an annual meet up that encourages young women to find their power through self-efficacy. Every year, we participate in the conference ourselves through Power Chats, a segment that pairs a professional with a high schooler to engage in meaningful discussion about career advice, professional development, and personal growth.
Lastly, we believe that Fine Art can transform minds. We collaborate with the Museum of Fine Arts Houston to lend an approachable voice and perspective to their exhibitions. It is important for us to be arbiters of beauty and inspiration in all forms. We believe it is crucial that we support artistic expression, essential works, and the museum itself, which is a world-class institution and the only museum facility in the nation designed by famed architect, Mies van der Rohe.
Laura’s collections are visually stunning, exquisitely detailed and designed to be a delight to have in your home. Each piece embodies warmth, comfort and beauty influenced by her daily life. Intentionally designed with your family’s legacy at heart, Laura envisions each piece will be lovingly passed to the next generation. She purposefully selects materials based on their sustainability, durability, and their impact on the community so that you may feel confident about what you’re bringing into your home. A life well lived is more than just collection of things. It’s also the sights, sounds and smells that evoke the most treasured chapters of your story.
As a brand ambassador for Hudson Valley Lighting, Laura brings attention to an iconic American brand with fixtures perfect for any style. Not only does she source Hudson Valley Lighting for her clients, she is a proud advocate for HVLGroup at home and in the studio, where Corbett’s Cielo fixture hangs above the conference room. Since becoming an ambassador in 2018, Laura’s HVL interiors have been featured in Rue Magazine and House Beautiful. Her LEGENDS of La Cienega window proudly showcased fixtures from Hudson Valley and Troy Lighting, leading to her profile in CA Design + Home. The best is yet to come on this partnership.
Vetrazzo x Laura U curated surface edition is the epitome of advanced material design, skilled engineering, and beautiful craftsmanship. Artisans create each slab with care, placing thousands of reclaimed glass pieces by hand. Inspired by the popular American cities reminiscent of the mid-century modern era of interior design, the four colorways Laura curated express the range of personality and needs of her top residential interior design clients. Each distinct design captures the inspiration of Laura’s favorite time periods with touches of modern influence.
Tai Ping x Laura U limited-edition capsule collection is an exercise in texture, an exploration of color and a contemporary interpretation of time-honored designs. To meet Laura’s high standard of quality, each rug is hand-knotted, hand-tufted and crafted with premium materials like silk, cashmere, and wool. The rug designs are based on the structural composition of fretwork and classic Chinoiserie motifs found on antique screens and ginger jars. A color palette of blues, greens, and neutrals give the collection a fresh and timeless feel.
Frost & Ember was a limited-edition capsule collection designed in partnership with renowned American textile manufacturer, Ellisha Alexina. The organic designs are printed on Belgian linen using a screen printing and hand-painting process. The cool blue and warm copper color palettes were inspired by the beauty of nature and Laura’s desire to create a linen collection that could be used throughout the year. A hostess knows that a well-dressed table welcomes family and friends, and Laura designed her collection to help celebrate those moments around the table.
