This classic home in Houston’s River Oaks neighborhood underwent a beautiful transformation for a family of four. Originally built in the 1930s, the home had been renovated, with additions. When the current homeowners purchased it, they considered tearing the structure down to completely rebuild. We encouraged them to work with an architect, take the home down to the studs, and re-design the home as an homage to its historic roots.
It was important to keep the finishes authentic to the original build of the home. We incorporated blackened brass finishes for an instant patina, and included interior doors that would have matched the originals. The result is a warm and collected interior, with a great flow throughout all the gathering spaces of the home. We added a gallery hall that connects the home to a large addition. This new gallery has gorgeous views of the garden and pool, acts as a new mudroom, and provides stunning natural light all day long.
