Renovations are always exciting! Large-scale remodels are one of our specialties and they allow for us to breathe new life into an older home. In this project reveal, we’re delving the details behind a lovely traditional home with gorgeous natural light and great bones.
The Laura U team and I updated this interior to merge the homeowner’s equal love for traditional, antique pieces and clean-lined upholstery and quirky, youthful accents. This project brought us the challenge of mixing a flow of new colors and textures throughout each room while keeping to the homeowner’s desire for a neutral, calming color palette. Like life, it was all about balance!
When you enter the home, you are greeted with a calming color palette of greys, creams, and touches of soft blue. The stair runner from Unique Carpets and gorgeous hardwood floors ground the space in an elegant and quiet way. We tapped the uber-talented Greg Schenck, of Schenck & Co. to finish the custom hardwood floors throughout the home. They quickly became my favorite design element in the space.
Just across the generous foyer is the formal dining room. We found the beautiful antique gold mirror at Joyce Horn in Houston.
The living room is a fresh take on a traditional design. The homeowners asked for a polished, cozy, and tailored space. Done and Done! The custom sofas and lounge chairs are a perfectly crisp fit.
The kitchen is required a few tweaks to the already tidy design. We honed the marble countertops for a subtler appearance, added a soft flax toned window shade, and installed lanterns. The barstools from TCS Designs give a pop of color with their waxed linen upholstery in French blue.
The Master bedroom was created to be a serene escape for our clients. Aside from the finishing of the white oak floors, we incorporated a specialty finish for the ceiling, expertly crafted by Anything But Plain.
Kids’ Rooms = Color!
Now for the dash of color, we are known for! As we moved to the kid’s rooms, we wanted to express their unique personalities in each space. Each of the four kiddos was involved in the design of his or her rooms. They made lists, did drawings, and sat in on the presentation of their spaces so they could influence the design from top to bottom. This fun loft bed from Pottery Barn Teen was a great way to make studying fun. We added a custom rock wall so he had a couple of options for climbing into bed!
This sweet room has bold colors of turquoise and yellow. We added in a youthful touch with the airy, hanging chair from Serena and Lily to give a fun lounging option. Overall, we wanted this room to be pretty and playful so she can easily transition from pre-teen to teenage years.
This space plays with bold cobalt and large-scale textures. A second loft bed allows for a tucked-away study and smart use of space. The window-seat with a gorgeous navy velvet, the hand-tufted Surya rug, and geometric mirror from Bungalow 5 pull in our fun color.
Light, Bright and Polished
This renovation was all about creating a beautiful space with everything in its place for a busy family of six. It embodies their love for traditional design and antique pieces in a current way.
