Mirrors are so much more than a reflective surface in which you check your appearance. While they are great for a quick glance at your lipstick on your way out the door or the application of a full face of makeup, they can also become a focal point of your room. They add depth and dimension and bounce around a room’s light like nobodies business. Added bonus: mirrors with fab frames add texture, detail, and color to a space too!
Have you ever sat down and thought to yourself (insert thought bubble here!) “I wish there was a table here on which I could rest my martini!”? Not having a place to rest and relax after a long day or having to awkwardly hold your drink because there isn’t a place to put it down just isn’t very pleasant. Seating and table space are two things to keep in mind when designing a family room or living room. That’s why having the right accent table in the right spot is so important.
Maybe you’re a die-hard fan of sapphire blue or a low-key lover of emerald green. Whether a lover of ruby or amethyst, one thing stays true: gem-toned decor can be intimidating. Openly, I felt the same way when I first started my career in interior design. These deep hues can be used just about anywhere – accent walls, rugs, mirrors — but are there rules to follow when injecting this much color into your home? I’ll let you in on a little secret: jewel-tones can be your best friend when it comes to decorating.
As winter begins to drift away and the warmer weather begins to arrive, the Laura U team has been busy looking over the latest collections from some of our favorite vendors and designers. With all this inspiration, we can’t help but get excited for what the spring/summer seasons have in store!
Check out our most recent obsessions that caught our eye this month.
With the holiday of love upon us, I can reflect on the two things I love most- my family and interior design! Throughout my career, I have studied and experimented with countless design tips and techniques; and have narrowed down my favorites that work best for me.
Let me start by saying there is no secret rule book designers use. We are all creative by nature and love to imagine, explore and follow our intuition by pushing the envelope at times. We do this because we all strive to create our own design style that sets us apart from the rest.
For instance, as most of you already know, I am not a big believer in designs based on “trends” of the season. Mostly because trends come and go at a rapid pace and your home style shouldn’t. Instead, I enjoy the challenge of taking classic pieces and mixing them with modern elements to transform them into one classically current design.

[ezcol_1third]Today we wanted to highlight one of our favorite new interiors: our Heights Loft guestroom. This space is a great example of what to incorporate to ensure your guests are happy, comfy, and enjoy their visit!
The palette chosen for this room is absolutely urban & chic, but super versatile as well. The brick wall is contrasted with the delicate tones of the neutral walls, ivory headboard, and crisp bedding, while the strong red of the drapery, rug and accents is a fun compliment.
We are so thrilled with this look and love the unexpectedness of the black and white throw! But, by far, my favorite thing about this room are the glossy red lamps. Love. Them. So. Much.
You have probably noticed that we LOVE gorgeous pops of color, in almost any space! And from our Pinterest page, you may have noticed our obsession with the vibrant red-orange we like to call ‘Tangerine Dream’. Our board features great ideas on how to incorporate this color into your home, all at-a-glance.
From a Dreamsicle pastel version, to a muted pumpkin, to brights that are the visual equivalent of a hefty dose of Vitamin C, orange is a great way to infuse your space with a sunny energy!
One classic pairing is a cool gray with a vibrant tangerine it – looks modern and bright and clean!
Another favorite combo is combining lavender with washed out orange. It’s feminine, but not too frilly.
You can bring this energetic and refreshing color into your space in so many ways; a single accent item or wall, a small grouping or accessories collection, or coating your room wall to wall in tangy color for a bold effect. Check it out and feel free to show us how you have incorporated a little tangerine into your own spaces!
Until Next Time,
Spring has just begun, and we’re thinking about the beach already! Our sneak peek from back in January showed one of our latest projects in sunny Galveston, Texas. This home has us in the mood for summer breezes, with a cool drink in hand.
We are so excited to have received the professional pictures from this project (thanks Julie Soefer Photography!), and we thought we’d take a look at some of our favorite rooms these next couple of weeks: today, one of the guest bedrooms and baths!
[ezcol_1half]The homeowner asked for plenty of space for family to spend their summer holidays, and the cozy yet airy bunk beds help fill this need admirably! (I love the way the top bunk seems to float in midair!)
With touches of the same watery cerulean accents found throughout the rest of the home, the aesthetic is bright, white, and cool—lots of family memories to be made here!
I also love the wavy pattern of the area rug (seen below, from the bath), which neatly ties in our nautical, sea-touched theme.
The bath continues the beachy theme with the beadboard detail on the doors of the cabinetry. The deeper teal blue on the cabinetry adds a little gravitas to the room. And isn’t that porthole mirror just so fitting?
Next week, we’ll feature another couple of rooms from our beach getaway project. For more of our favorite interior images follow us on Instagram![/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end][/ezcol_1half_end]
See you then!
