High Point Market in 48 Hours

What a whirlwind the last couple of weeks have been! I recently returned from an amazing vacation in Cartagena, Colombia celebrating the wedding of two fantastic people (I highly recommend a trip if you have never been!), and right before we headed out on our Colombian adventure, I was “on tour” in North Carolina.

No, I haven’t left the interior design world in pursuit of a musical career, but I was lucky enough to be a member of the Design Blogger’s Tour at the spring High Point Market. Presented by the fab team behind the Design Blogger’s Conference, the tour brought together a fantastic and diverse group of design bloggers for a two-day tour of some of High Point’s best showrooms and events with the best and brightest minds in design.

Before and After: Tackling Trends

There are those projects that come along every once and a while that remind us how lucky we are to work in such an innovative and creative industry. This mid-century modern renovation was certainly one of them. The homeowners had invested in creating a home reflective of their own personal style (which we loved!) and was equal parts eclectic and modern.

Our challenge was to update their space and, instead of focusing on the hottest trends, create designs that the family would love for a long time without losing the touches of fun of which the client is so fond. Because the Laura U team is dedicated to creating looks that blend inspirations from the past with current design trends, we knew this property was perfect for us!

Read on to see how we totally transformed this home by updating the already charming nature of the space to create a WOW factor that will stand the test of time.

Interior Design for Your REAL Life

From stunning furniture collections to unique textiles, drapery, accessories and more, the world of interior design is filled with unlimited creative opportunity. Because we have so many options, we are often frozen and in decision-making limbo. All of the choices are, of course, a great problem to have! To break free and start moving your design forward into reality, it is of the utmost importance to honestly assess the real needs of your family, not just your aesthetic preference. This will help you to create some practical magic in your design!

For families with children and busy schedules (like mine), I strongly urge clients to consider the importance of the design of your most hectic spaces like the mud room and utility room. While your guests get to enjoy the formal living room and dining rooms on special occasions, you will love your kids’ backpack drop zone every day!

So, whether you’re getting organized well before the holidays or hastily stashing toys in the closet as your guests ring the bell, you will surely thank your lucky stars you went with a practical – yet insanely beautiful – interior design!

Keep reading to see how to create Classically Current styles that cater to the needs of any busy family.
