After all the furniture, rugs and wallcoverings have been installed, there’s one more thing you need to do – accessorize! Accessories, especially in bookcases, are a must. It creates another dimension to the design when you layer in objects of different heights, shapes, textures, and sizes. They’re the perfect finishing touch and elevate the space by adding unique, fun and personal details.
Mirrors are so much more than a reflective surface in which you check your appearance. While they are great for a quick glance at your lipstick on your way out the door or the application of a full face of makeup, they can also become a focal point of your room. They add depth and dimension and bounce around a room’s light like nobodies business. Added bonus: mirrors with fab frames add texture, detail, and color to a space too!
One of the things about being a designer is that I’m always rearranging, tweaking and changing up the look of a space…trying to find new ways to make the space feel more personal and lively. Though pillows, rugs or a new coat of paint can definitely change the vibe of the room, art can be even more impactful. Art plays a supporting role and a room isn’t complete without it.
When you think of feminine colors, shades of pink are one of the first colors that come to mind. For quite a while now, millennial pink has been a hot color in the design world. But I feel the winds of change a-blowin’ and I’m calling it: This season I’m predicting that lilac is the new blush!
When it comes to setting the tone of the room, do you want it to feel relaxing, vibrant or modern? Paint is definitely one way to set the mood and ambiance in a room but, for a truly unique look, you can use tile with a fun grout color. There are just so many options! What should you consider when selecting your tile and grout color? We chatted with Alison Dominguez from Daltile to get the inside scoop on what to think about when making your selections.
“There are several factors to consider. Probably 2 of the main things to think about when selecting grout is the look you are trying to achieve and on-going maintenance. Whether you want a contrast or just want to grout to blend and not be seen, this is a grout color decision. With the gray and white trends now, I am seeing the contrast of white subway tile with gray grout. Also, maintenance is a big consideration. There are many color-consistent, stain, mold, and mildew resistant grouts on the market that make cleaning and maintaining grout much easier than in the past.”
[ezcol_1third]Today we wanted to highlight one of our favorite new interiors: our Heights Loft guestroom. This space is a great example of what to incorporate to ensure your guests are happy, comfy, and enjoy their visit!
The palette chosen for this room is absolutely urban & chic, but super versatile as well. The brick wall is contrasted with the delicate tones of the neutral walls, ivory headboard, and crisp bedding, while the strong red of the drapery, rug and accents is a fun compliment.
We are so thrilled with this look and love the unexpectedness of the black and white throw! But, by far, my favorite thing about this room are the glossy red lamps. Love. Them. So. Much.
It is truly a wonderful feeling to work hard to fulfill our clients’ needs and get this sort of positive feedback. Working with Devi and Duane was a total dream – they have great style and a beautiful home. Their reaction makes everything worth it. We are thrilled they love their finished home and hope that they stay in Houston and that house for many years to come! Thanks, Devi and Duane, for being AWESOME clients!! <3
P.S. Please forgive the cell phone pics – we are getting this house photographed ASAP!
Progress! The quarters and garage are completely gone! The lot actually looks much better without them and I am encouraged by the clean slate. We also removed all of the old, scraggly ivy that had taken over much of facade. My “fairytale” house looks kind of like a nightmare right now. And somehow the smallest house ever looks even smaller…But not for long! Formwork for the new slab starts this week.
In addition, Preservation Houston (www.preservationhouston.org) contacted us about becoming a designated Historic Houston home. Old House is so super old that it can be considered Historic – wow! I love this idea and am excited to start the process (thanks Courtney!)!
