Like many of our clients, I have little kiddos running around and understand the need for a balance between luxury and functionality when it comes to selecting flooring. But with so many choices, how do you know which one to use? It may seem like you have to choose between aesthetics and functionality, but the great news is that you don’t! Today, I’m breaking down how to select functional and beautiful flooring for any space.
When you’re designing a brand new space or looking to redo your current home, one of the first things you might feel like you have to do is select a color palette. You start browsing magazines, social media, Houzz and Pinterest to find the perfect colors to use. If you can’t find just the right colors, don’t worry. Color palettes develop over throughout the design process. Yes, it’s a commitment that takes some ongoing research and inspiration but you’ll find the perfect palette with a little patience!
When it comes to designing spaces for your children, it’s important to think long-term about how the space will be used. It should be functional and reflect their personality. Because children grow up so quickly, their needs for storage, a space to play, and a place to hang out with friends and study changes fairly quickly. Thinking about these things initially will prevent you from having to redesign the space every few years. So how can you design a chic and functional space they’ll love?
I love incorporating vivid colors and prints into my designs. It can range from geometric, animal prints, organic shapes or the good ole’ stripes and polka dots – there’s always a place for patterned fabrics in your interiors. Prints and patterns are a great way to add depth, interest and personal touches to your home! So whether you like to layer patterns with solid colors or other prints, they allow for you to make as bold or as subtle of a statement as you like.
Physical walls used to determine the furniture layout of a room, but architectural designs have since evolved to include more open spaces. I love an open space plan because it gives you the opportunity to create various layouts using sectionals, sofas and lounge chairs! The position of each piece determines how the room flows and what the vibe of the room will be. So whether you want one large open space or one with a smaller space within, you have the flexibility to make it your own!
When you’re looking to make a statement in a room, furniture and accessories are fabulous. But for something a little more unique, a bold ceiling color is a great way to make a statement. It’s not too overwhelming, totally unexpected and it shows off your personality.
Do you remember when it was a huge faux pas to wear white after Labor Day or when your shoes had to match your bag? It sounds so silly now because people don’t really follow these rules anymore, but there really was a time when ladies strictly followed those guidelines. Fortunately, the fashion industry has evolved and women are now dressing for their personal taste rather than following the rules.
With only a few more weeks until we ring in a new year, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about getting yourself organized and ready for 2018. Taking the time to plan out your goals and making sure you have a chic office is a must. Whether you work from home or just need a space to prep for the week, a home office should represent you and be a space where you’re comfortable.
The word “home” has a million meanings. It may be your place for relaxing or entertaining. Maybe it is the concept of time spent with friends and family. No matter what comes to mind when you think of home, there’s one important thing that is a constant: YOU!
Interior Design is always evolving. The industry itself expands and experiments, creating strong looks and philosophies like mid-century modern or shabby chic. And just as traditional begins to mesh with contemporary and formal with casual chic, your own style matures over your lifetime. So how do you keep up? Well, that’s where we come in! It’s our job (and specialty!) to help steer you in the right direction and find a style that is unique, timeless and classically you.
