Our clients loved the nature and lifestyle of being in the suburbs but also desired the modern and contemporary designs that are found in the city. So when they asked us to design a home for them to retire in, we wanted the space to bring together the best of both worlds. This retreat home (which was featured in Woodlands Lifestyle and Homes!) is a modern, efficient, no-frills space. It was designed to be functional and family-friendly but definitely isn’t light on the luxurious details.
Adding personality to your bed can be done with more than just decorative pillows. A fabulous headboard can make your bed truly one-of-a-kind. Go bold with graphic prints, vibrant colors or luxe fabrics. It’s very chic and modern! Tufts or pleats on a headboard make a subtle statement and elevate the look of the bedroom.
I love incorporating vivid colors and prints into my designs. It can range from geometric, animal prints, organic shapes or the good ole’ stripes and polka dots – there’s always a place for patterned fabrics in your interiors. Prints and patterns are a great way to add depth, interest and personal touches to your home! So whether you like to layer patterns with solid colors or other prints, they allow for you to make as bold or as subtle of a statement as you like.
Rugs play a big part in our interiors. Whether you choose a neutral or bold color, they can be a statement piece or a subtle compliment to the furnishings. No matter what rug we source, it has to match our client’s lifestyle and be beautiful, practical and suitable for everyday use. Ranging from modern to boho, to feminine and antique – here are a few of the rugs we absolutely love!
Physical walls used to determine the furniture layout of a room, but architectural designs have since evolved to include more open spaces. I love an open space plan because it gives you the opportunity to create various layouts using sectionals, sofas and lounge chairs! The position of each piece determines how the room flows and what the vibe of the room will be. So whether you want one large open space or one with a smaller space within, you have the flexibility to make it your own!
Furniture is a key element to any room, but sometimes you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for. So when you can’t find the perfect piece, what do you do? Go custom! Our go-to is House + Town. They’re experts in crafting quality pieces and we’ve been working with them for years. We first started working with them as Custom Designs under John Greenwood and developed a trusting relationship to create gorgeous pieces for our clients.
For today’s project reveal, we are taking a trip back to 2014. I know that a design from 4 years ago may seem a bit dated, but I can assure you, this home is anything but stuck in the past. The romantic design with modern details is the perfect representation of this sophisticated couple. A large piece of art by Angela Fraleigh in the formal living room inspired the neutral colors and soft purple hues we used throughout their home.
After all the furniture, rugs and wallcoverings have been installed, there’s one more thing you need to do – accessorize! Accessories, especially in bookcases, are a must. It creates another dimension to the design when you layer in objects of different heights, shapes, textures, and sizes. They’re the perfect finishing touch and elevate the space by adding unique, fun and personal details.
Have you ever walked into a space and thought to yourself “Wow, is it just me or does my [insert any room here] look really dated?!” Don’t feel bad! When I walked into the fab 70s sunken living room in The Boulevard Show House, that was my first thought! After some slight miracle-working, that sunken lounge space is going to be the newest and best thing. Just like with fashion or music, your design style and preferences change over time.
It’s been 5 months since we started work on The Boulevard Show House and I’m pleased to say that things are moving right along! We ended 2017 with new windows and are starting 2018 by turning our attention to the landscaping. Right now it’s a mess, but we have recruited some experts to help transform this construction site into something beautiful.
