December has arrived but there is still a ton to accomplish before the holidays are upon us! It’s not just the festivities that are keeping us extra busy this month. We’re wrapping up some fabulous projects for our clients and, of course, working away on the Boulevard Show House. I can’t believe how much we’ve been able to accomplish over the past three months. It seems like just yesterday we were doing our walkthrough of the house with Newberry Architecture to get our initial concept together.
So, November flew right by! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. We’ve had a ton to be thankful for this year at the Laura U Studio. From the ASID Awards to exciting progress on projects and installs, to the massive (and exciting) undertaking that is the Boulevard Show House. This year has definitely been a busy and eventful one. So as we wrap up this month and welcome in the Holidays with cozy sweaters and Holiday music, let’s take a look at what has the Laura U team obsessing this past month!
When it comes to putting the perfect outfit together, it usually goes something like this: You choose the clothes, add some shoes, select a gorgeous bag and then finish it off with beautiful accessories. Whether it’s a classic single strand of pearls, an armful of mixed metal bangles or an eye-catching pair of statement earrings, jewelry is the finishing touch that every outfit needs.
At Laura U, we specialize in creating Classically Current interiors for fine residences. We often focus our design skills on new home construction or large-scale renovations, but we also love the dive deep into apartments and high rise design! The challenge of creating an interior that is both functional for city living and elegantly appointed requires that we hone in on our client’s needs and highlight them within the space.
As much as I love browsing social media or magazines for design inspiration, it’s always much more exciting to see things in person…which is why I love going to Furniture Market. So when the opportunity came up to attend the brand new Hotel ZaZa hardhat tour for design bloggers, I knew we had to go!
I can’t believe how much progress has been made on our interior spaces of the Boulevard Show House! We’ve laid out design boards and pretty much-finished selections for the foyer and stairway, pool/cabana space and the family room/playroom area. Things are quickly coming together on the inside. And while I’m super excited about all this interior progress, I want to jump back out to the exterior of the Boulevard Show House. They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul, so does that mean your windows are the eyes to the soul of your home? At any rate, let’s talk Windows!
It’s a big decision, but deciding to build a home is one of the most exciting things you can do! Yes, it’s definitely a labor of love, but there’s nothing quite like watching your dream home come to life. And walking into your home for the first time once it’s completed is something truly special.
When we did the walkthrough of the Boulevard Show House pre-renovation, we realized something was missing. The layout didn’t include a family room or a playroom for the girls. These were two rooms we knew we definitely wanted to have, so the challenge was to figure out how to add these two rooms to the house. Luckily, one of the best parts about doing a renovation is that you have the opportunity to create new spaces from existing ones…so that’s exactly what we did!
One of the things about being a designer is that I’m always rearranging, tweaking and changing up the look of a space…trying to find new ways to make the space feel more personal and lively. Though pillows, rugs or a new coat of paint can definitely change the vibe of the room, art can be even more impactful. Art plays a supporting role and a room isn’t complete without it.
Seeing brand new designer collaborations first hand at High Point Market is definitely one of the highlights for me. Meeting the creative genius behind the collection is icing on this designer cake! This past market (Fall 2017) I had the distinct pleasure of speaking with Thomas Pheasant about his new collection for Baker furniture. Mr. Pheasant is not only an award-winning interior designer, he’s internationally recognized for his elegant and thoughtful furniture collections, which are a contemporary interpretation of classic design principles.
