Gone are the days of gas stove tops and ovens and fridges with basic functions. Whether it’s in your car, on your wrist or in your home, technology is everywhere these days helping to make your life easier and more manageable. And your kitchen is no exception.
The idea of restoring a home back to its original beauty is what makes renovation projects so exciting. When we were asked to turn this 1980’s home into something sophisticated, we couldn’t wait to get started! The homeowners wanted to maintain much of the original structure, so some areas of the home were fully renovated while other areas were cosmetically altered. Throughout the process, we worked with the architect and builder to develop a cohesive design.
Renovating a historic home is quite the process! The sheetrock is in which means we’re one step closer to installing our gorgeous finishes throughout the home, including our hardwood flooring. We’ve joined forces with the talented Schenck & Company on the floors for the Boulevard Show House because they’re the most in-demand experts when it comes to creating custom fine hardwood floors.
January is all about getting a fresh start, finding new sources of inspiration and learning about all the new up and coming products in the design world. It also means that we get to take a trip to Dallas for the Dallas Total Gift and Accessories Market – so fun! This year was even more exciting because the entire design team joined!
I love incorporating vivid colors and prints into my designs. It can range from geometric, animal prints, organic shapes or the good ole’ stripes and polka dots – there’s always a place for patterned fabrics in your interiors. Prints and patterns are a great way to add depth, interest and personal touches to your home! So whether you like to layer patterns with solid colors or other prints, they allow for you to make as bold or as subtle of a statement as you like.
Have you ever walked into a space and thought to yourself “Wow, is it just me or does my [insert any room here] look really dated?!” Don’t feel bad! When I walked into the fab 70s sunken living room in The Boulevard Show House, that was my first thought! After some slight miracle-working, that sunken lounge space is going to be the newest and best thing. Just like with fashion or music, your design style and preferences change over time.
Whether you’re moving into a new home or just updating your current, creating a relaxing space in a large room is a fun challenge. A large room means you have a lot of space to work with, which is always exciting! However, one of the biggest challenges of a large room is selecting the perfect sectional that fits like a glove within the space. Sectionals need to be comfy, but not too bulky. They should be a sleek, luxurious and a livable gathering spot for your family.
So, November flew right by! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. We’ve had a ton to be thankful for this year at the Laura U Studio. From the ASID Awards to exciting progress on projects and installs, to the massive (and exciting) undertaking that is the Boulevard Show House. This year has definitely been a busy and eventful one. So as we wrap up this month and welcome in the Holidays with cozy sweaters and Holiday music, let’s take a look at what has the Laura U team obsessing this past month!
I am so excited that Thanksgiving is tomorrow! Between traveling to Las Vegas and High Point to go to market, announcing our Boulevard Show House, the Laura U Team being recognized at this year’s ASID awards and working with such amazing clients this year, we have much to be thankful for! It’s been a whirlwind so I am looking forward to gathering around the dinner table with friends and family to really spend some time.
It’s a big decision, but deciding to build a home is one of the most exciting things you can do! Yes, it’s definitely a labor of love, but there’s nothing quite like watching your dream home come to life. And walking into your home for the first time once it’s completed is something truly special.
