After all the furniture, rugs and wallcoverings have been installed, there’s one more thing you need to do – accessorize! Accessories, especially in bookcases, are a must. It creates another dimension to the design when you layer in objects of different heights, shapes, textures, and sizes. They’re the perfect finishing touch and elevate the space by adding unique, fun and personal details.
Have you ever walked into a space and thought to yourself “Wow, is it just me or does my [insert any room here] look really dated?!” Don’t feel bad! When I walked into the fab 70s sunken living room in The Boulevard Show House, that was my first thought! After some slight miracle-working, that sunken lounge space is going to be the newest and best thing. Just like with fashion or music, your design style and preferences change over time.
The entire Laura U Team worked tirelessly to execute this spectacular space in just under two months. Hours and hours of work went into making this previously underwhelming room into one of the most unique in the showhouse. Thank you to our devoted staff of designers, interns, our purchasing agent and our fabulous vendors for making this Writer’s Cottage truly come together!

“The space is re-imagined through the eyes of a 1920’s world traveler, presently settled at the Villa de Luxe: The ‘Writer’s Cottage’ encompasses a collection from his voyage abroad. He now resides in Houston, settled to write a novel of his worldly travels as he attends to this grand estate.”
