Velvet accents guaranteed to glam up your space
Velvet is synonymous with luxury and opulence. It’s been around for centuries, but it hasn’t always had a place in the interior design world. Between the lack of color options and stiffness of the fabric, it’s not a material many wanted to use. But changes in fabric technology have turned this once dated fabric into something new and fresh. I’m happy to say velvet accents are making a comeback!
Incorporating velvet into a space is a fabulous way to add visual dimension and a textural element. It’s a simple way to transform a room into something a little more glamorous. Whether it’s on a headboard in your master bedroom suite or on a kitchen bar stool, the options are endless.
Velvet in your home
I absolutely love including velvet in our clients homes. The fabric adds warmth and a luxurious feel to any interior space, not to mention it feels oh-so-soft to the touch. The broad range of colors and improved quality makes it a great fabric for upholstery, drapery and accent pieces. There’s no room that can’t handle the drama and glam velvet has to offer!
If you’re not ready to make a big commitment and want to ease yourself into the velvet trend, start with a velvet throw or pillow in a neutral color. One of my favorite colors is a sweet blush velvet. It’s an easy way to add depth and dimension. And even though it’s a neutral color, it definitely won’t feel boring.
Don’t Be Afraid to Be Bold
For more of a statement look, use a velvet headboard or upholstered chair in a bold color for an unexpected surprise. The velvet adds a bit of drama and takes your room to new heights. A pop of bright blue cobalt or magenta will catch some eyes for sure. And I don’t know about you, but I would love to sit on a gorgeous pink settee in the morning to put on my shoes or snuggle up in this stunning green bed!
Where to use Velvet pieces
The wonderful thing about velvet is that it doesn’t have a style. You can use velvet pieces and accents in every home no matter if the style is contemporary, traditional, modern or classic. One of the rooms I recommend starting with is the living room. A touch of velvet makes a warm and cozy setting for all your family gatherings and guest entertaining.
The important thing to remember is you don’t always have to go big at first. Accent pillows and throws can be just as luxurious as a velvet sofa or chair. It’s all about finding the pieces that work with your style and home. But take it from me, once you start using velvet, you may not be able to stop using it!
